Intelligent off-road vehicles to be developed by Intel and DARPA

The all-terrain robots will be trained in virtual off-road conditions by Intel

Jensen Huang, the founder of NVIDIA, is a strong supporter of training automated vehicle control systems with a virtual system. Such tests will be transferred from roads with high-quality coverage to rough terrain that does not exist in reality. All-terrain robotic vehicles will be developed more rapidly.

As explained in a recently published press release on Intel Corporation's website, the company received support from the US agency DARPA to create a simulated environment designed to train robotic vehicles designed to traverse rough terrain. With such advancements, military equipment manufacturers will be able to build robotic vehicles that can be controlled remotely and automatically without a crew inside.

Intel CARLA allows you to create vast simulated landscapes with rough terrain at the touch of a button, and then simulate self-propelled all-terrain vehicle tests in this virtual environment. By transferring the skills acquired in the virtual environment to the hardware of a real model of equipment, they can be developed more rapidly. During its five-year lifespan, Intel will enlist the help of the University of Texas at Austin and the Computer Vision Center in Barcelona.
