SHERP the Ark! Let's take a closer look!
Manufacturers claim that it's actually an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rather than a sport utility vehicle. No matter what you call it, SHERP the Ark 3400 is impressive.
Overland work vehicles like this one are able to transport up to 3,400 kg of cargo or 22 people over nearly any terrain.
In addition to the 330 gallons of fuel capacity and 3,000 kg of cargo capacity, the six-wheel-drive, multi-configurable cargo module also enables all those crazy, chassis-bending maneuvers. A simple chain drive connects the cab to the 6-wheel people-carrier (there is a driveshaft hidden inside the chassis coupling connecting front to back) so the mighty Doosan D24 diesel engine can power all ten 63-inch tires.
The Engine Is Powered By A 2.4L Turbodiesel Engine From Doosan.
The chain-driven Sherp is powered by a 2.4L inline-four turbodiesel making 74 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque coupled to a five-speed manual transmission, the same as would be found in a typical front-wheel-drive economy car. Sherp the Ark weighs over 11,750 pounds with the people-carrier module, and a 2.4L turbodiesel drives it? Gear reduction increases torque.
With fuel consumption between 2 and 3 gallons per hour, that engine is a fuel miser and eco-friendly, as well. Sherp the Ark can float, even with its huge tires deflated. Sherp the Ark scoots across the water at 3.7 mph and can float without a leak. All 10 tires can be inflated in minutes with the onboard airing system, and damaged tires can even be blocked off if necessary.
SHERP The Ark: What Can It Do?
Hydraulic, 3-Axis chassis coupling and a range of 1,200+ miles make SHERP able to climb and descend 40-Degree grades, manage 30-Degree cross slopes, and provide 5 feet of approach clearance. The SHEP engineers put a weak shaft link in the transmission driveshaft coupling; therefore, the first part to fail inside the cab is easily accessible under a floor panel, and can be replaced with hand tools. SHEP the Ark was designed to allow users access to nearly any place on Earth, so it is as simple and robust as possible. Temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius and temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius can be handled by the Ark.
